A scale tells you how much you weigh. It does not tell you what that weight is made of, or whether the kilo you lost this month came from fat or from muscle. That difference decides whether your metabolism improves or deteriorates.

This service exists to answer that question with data, across three rigorous clinical phases. You can book it on its own, without a full consultation, and it also works as a follow-up check if you are already being treated by another professional.

What the protocol includes

  • Baseline anthropometric assessment: Clinical height measurement with a medical-precision stadiometer and determination of real body weight, free of dead weight from accessories or heavy clothing.
  • Advanced seca mBCA Alpha analysis: Computerised assessment using the reference standard in medical bioimpedance. It segments the body and quantifies subcutaneous and visceral fat mass, skeletal muscle mass by limb and trunk, total body water separating intracellular from extracellular, and phase angle as an indicator of cellular integrity.
  • Clinical interpretation consultation: A one-to-one educational session where I explain clearly what each chart and parameter means, we correlate results with your current health status to identify areas for optimisation, and you receive your high-resolution digital medical report by email or WhatsApp.

How to prepare for your first measurement

Bioimpedance reads body fluids. Any of these factors shifts the result, so the protocol is not a formality.

No exercise for 24 hours

Neither cardio nor weights. Physical activity redistributes body fluids and skews the reading.

No caffeine or alcohol

Coffee, tea, energy drinks and alcohol drastically alter cellular hydration. 24 hours beforehand.

Complete 4-hour fast

Solids and liquids, water included. It is what lets the device read your composition rather than your last meal.

Empty bladder 30 minutes before

Ideally having moved your bowels too. Intestinal and urinary content adds weight that is not yours.

Barefoot and lightly dressed

Measurement requires direct skin contact with the electrodes. Bring leggings, shorts or a vest.

No metal objects

Watches, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, rings, keys or coins: metal interferes with the device current.

Mandatory clinical notices

Active medical devices and pregnancy. With a pacemaker or another implanted electronic device — or one attached to the body, such as an insulin pump — or during pregnancy, electrical bioimpedance is contraindicated. Tell me beforehand and we use alternative assessment methods.

Osteosynthesis material. Plates, nails, screws, wires or hip and knee prostheses locally alter the device resistance. Mention it when booking.

Menstrual cycle. The fluid retention typical of those days shifts the real values. If you are menstruating, tell me so it can be interpreted correctly or rescheduled.

Frequently asked questions

Three ways. The equipment: the seca mBCA Alpha is validated against reference methods and segments the body, whereas a domestic or gym bioimpedance scale estimates from two foot electrodes. The parameters: here you get intracellular and extracellular water separately, plus phase angle. And most importantly, somebody explains what they mean. Detail in this article.

Yes. A strict 4-hour fast covering solids and liquids: no water either during that window, because it alters the bioimpedance readings. You should also avoid exercise, caffeine and alcohol for 24 hours beforehand. The full protocol is below.

Not with bioimpedance. People with a pacemaker or another implanted electronic device — or one attached to the body, such as an insulin pump — and pregnant women must not undergo bioimpedance assessment. Tell me when booking and we assess using alternative anthropometric methods.

Every 8 to 12 weeks during an active change process. Sooner than that, most of what you would see is fluid fluctuation rather than real tissue change. The exception is GLP-1 drug treatment, where more frequent measurement is advisable to watch muscle loss: explained in this article.

No. You can take the assessment and its interpretation on their own. If you later decide you want the eating plan, either of the other two services starts from this same data.
